What is the difference between mitosis and meiosis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mitosis is used to replicate cells. to clone cells. Meiosis is to combine DNA of two different sources and create haploid cells to use during reproduction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

meiosis is used for genetic variation of a population-it is useful for orgainisms that live in an unstable environment. Whereas mitosis is good for orgainsisms that live in a stable environment where they do not need variance
