3/8x-1/5x=10=3/10x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

too many equal signs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it \[\frac{3}{x}x-\frac{1}{5}x=10+\frac{3}{10}x\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry, it's 3/8x-1/5x-10=3/10x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah best bet is to clear fractions by multiplying both sides by 40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[40(\frac{3}{8}x-\frac{1}{5}x-10)=\frac{3}{10}x\times 40\] \[15x-8x-400=12x\] \[7x-400=12x\] \[-400=5x\] \[\frac{-400}{5}=x\] \[x=-80\]
