The phrase "Connected to Earth" means exactly that.  A wire connected directly to the Earth.  Often (like in the electrical wiring for your house) it is connected to a cold water pipe that is ultimately buried in the ground.

ground doesnot mean ground literally .....
it means connected with respect to reference voltage ...
not necessarily earth... negative terminhal of battery may also serve as ground reference
