Sqrt 7x+2 = 2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{7x+2}=2x\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if so square both sides get \[7x+2=4x^2\] solve for x via \[4x^2-7x-2=0\] \[(x-2)(4x+1)=0\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x-2=0\] \[x=2\] or \[4x-1=0\] \[x=-\frac{1}{4}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then check answers and last one doesn't work because square root is always positive, so only solution is \[x=2\]

You are my hero :) <3 thank you for all the help!!!!!! You are awesome!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw hope it is clear!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

btw you really do have to check when you square. otherwise you may have a wrong answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh yes it is , I completely understand you :)
