8z-40/8z [factor out 8 in numerator and denominator] z-5/z could also be written as... 1-5/z

couldn't you just factor out 8z from the top and bottom and be left with -40
The entire thing is divided by 8z. It's like if you divorced your wife: she would take half your stuff and half your money. Same thing with 8z. Everything gets divided by 8z.
