Simplify by factor of 1: 8z-40/8z

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8z-40/8z [factor out 8 in numerator and denominator] z-5/z could also be written as... 1-5/z

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To clarify: \[\frac{z-5}{z}\]or\[1-\frac{5}{z}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Indeed!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

couldn't you just factor out 8z from the top and bottom and be left with -40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The entire thing is divided by 8z. It's like if you divorced your wife: she would take half your stuff and half your money. Same thing with 8z. Everything gets divided by 8z.

Jabberwock is correct hwever his analogy is unsafe as if you get yourself an expensive lawyer she just gets away with half of your money!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what if you got a prenup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you need differential equations for that.
