Determine if (1/3, -5) is a solution to -3x-10y=51 Please show all of your work.

1/3 is x, -5 is y ( like a point on a grid: x,y). So plug in 1/3 wherever you see x and -5 wherever you see y. If the equation works... well, then it works. :)

so basically you just plug in 1/3 for x and -5 for y, and see if the equation holds true. so -3*(1/3) - 10*(-5) = 51 is this true? -1--50 = -51, which does not equal 51, so it is not a solution
