multiply first equation by 2 and second by 3
this will give 6x in both equations
if you subtract equations the x's will disappear and leave equation in y
solve this for y
then substitute value of y in one of the equations to get x

@jimmy rep yes, but they want method of "determinants" which of course amounts to the same thing, just in one shot
