how to learn vocabulary? what are the ways to remember words , and to pursue high marks in critical reading!?
Read a lot - newspapers, magazines. Speak a lot. Join or start a public speaking or debating group. For vocabulary, check out "Word Power Made Easy" by Norman Lewis.
While reading newspaper or magazine, keep a dictionary with you. the moment you come across a word you do not know, consult the dictionary to learn the word and its meaning. Another way is to team up with another friend. Both buy the same medium sized dictionary and learn the words and meanings on one page a day and then quiz each other. Many of my students have made amazing progress with this method....☺
Join a forum dedicated to debating philosophy and social sciences. That way you broaden your mind through the use of critical writing and research. I did it and it brought my grade up from a C to an A.
Read! Read! Read! It may seem like the answer to everything English but it truly is. Challenge yourself with more difficult books and don't be afraid to look up any words you don't understand or know how to pronounce. You can also get a calendar that teaches you a new word each day and try to use that word at least once that day. Using new vocabulary in everyday conversation helps you to remember. You can also buy a vocabulary book and complete the practice tests in it. I recommend Merriam-Webster's Vocabulary Builder
