13. Five equal resistances, each of resistance R, are connected as shown in figure below. A battery of V volt is connected between A and B. The current flowing in FC will be http://www.twiddla.com/577153

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we're searching for I yeah? well then we use the equation V=IR. Where R is the total Resistence of the circuit. Also what is the picture supposed to be? most circuits are square. They draw them square so you can tell which resistors are in parallel and which are in series

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its the same...just needs a little modification.. m getting the answer out to be V/R but its not correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah I=V/(total R), but with 5 Resistors you would need to know if they are in parallel or in series. In Parallel: total R= R1+R2+R3.... while in Series: (1/total R)=(1/R1)+(1/R2)...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok So what we have in the new picture that you've drawn, we have a set of Resistors in Series then a Parallel and then another pair in Series

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you there at twiddla?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what you need to do is make (1/Rpink)= (1/R)+ (1/R), so 2Rpink=R, so Rpink=R/2. and Rpink=Rgreen. so we currently have 1 R. then we add the resistor between C and D to this because it is in parallel with the two sets of series resistors so the answer should be 2 R

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was and follow the colors i added to help with the equations!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

m gettin, R=2Rpink from the 1st eq you put forth

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct, for the both the pink and green series. so double your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

meet me over at twiddla...u 1520?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the equivalent resistance is R. so, I=V/R now as the current reaches the point f it diverges into two equal values. And thus, the current flowing through FC is I/2=V/2R
