I think you're talking about solving a system here, possibly by elimination? Try multiplying the first equation by 5, and the second equation by 8... that will give you 15x - 40y = -90 16x + 40y = 152 Now, if you add the equations together, you'll have 31x = 62 From here, you can solve for x, and then use that to solve for y... does that sound okay to you?
