i know this is a simple science question but I am having a hard time explaining it. how are sugars broken down and used in the body?

Sugars are broken down and used in the body, to release energy. Sugars are taken to cells where they go through processes called- Glycolysis, Kreb's cycle(TCA Cycle), Electron transport chain etc to release energy, Carbon di oxide and water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbohydrate_catabolism
