Consider the quadratic relation y = x2 - 2x - 35. Use the three different algebraic methods you have learned to rewrite the relation in vertex form.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here is the easy one. take \[\frac{-b}{2a}\] and the write \[y=a(x+\frac{b}{2a})^2+f(\frac{-b}{2a})\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so in this case you would put \[y=(x-1)^2+ \text{whatever you get when x = 1}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The second way is to complete the square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the third?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dunno i missed that class. what did the teacher say?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lmfao.. i wasnt in that class..

factoring and finding line of symetary. x^2-2x-35 (x-7)(x+5) We know that solution is 7 and -5 and line of symmetary should be in middle 7-5/2 =1 x=1 plug in 1 into equation (x-1)^2 + whatever you get when you plug in x=1
