It will give you the answer.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
aka said 1/2^3?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i did and it was not right!
OpenStudy (anonymous):

Perform the indicated operation.
(2x + y)2
OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):
(2x + y)(2x + y)
OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):
multiply them!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so it would be (4x+y^2)?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
nope

hellllp
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Foil or distribute them. What is the first term (4x * 4x)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
16x^2
OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):
polpak, its 2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):
correct.
Now the inner terms 2x * y
OpenStudy (anonymous):
2xy
OpenStudy (anonymous):
foil: first inner outer last
multiply the first terms, multiply the inner terms, multiply the outer terms, multiply the last terms, and add them all together!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
right, and the outer term will be the same. then the last term is y*y
OpenStudy (anonymous):
actually polpak's got u covered. let him/her explain

So the sum will be 4x^2 + 2xy + 2xy + y^2, and you just need to simplify the middle two terms.
Sorry, I mixed up the first terms were 2x * 2x, not 4x*4x
OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):
did u get that?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
polpak how would i write these in that one website you reccommended
OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):
simply write them.
OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):
lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
like i know how to write it in the box, but it says to type what you want it to do, what do i say? did that make sense?
OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):
simply type this equation directly.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i did! but it doesnt know what to do unless i type like "factor" or solve before the equation. but for this i need to perform the operation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Get answer.
