Venn diagram - in a birthday party ,out of 53 children ,8 children have neither ice-cream nor a cold drink. if 30 children have ice -cream and 23 have cold drinks ,find: how many children have both cold drinks and ice cream ... please guys tell me the method

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

well 53 - 8 = 45 so 45 have ice-cream or a cold drink yet 30 + 23 = 53 that is 8 too many, therefore 8 children were double counted 8 had both ice-cream and a cold drink

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are 8 children have neither ice-cream nor a cold drink, thus, remember this condition, you will see that there are some guys holding both ice-cream and cold drinks among the 30+23children who have ice-cream or cold drinks. Then there are 8 people don't have neither of them, so 8 guys must hold both ice-cream and cold drinks, then you could count these 8 people in the ice-cream group and repeated counting it in the could drink group thus why there are 53 people who have one of ice-cream or cold drink. then the answer is definitely 8.
