regeneration of body parts depends mostly on the presence of stem cells, which produce new cells. just think about skin! obvioulsy anything happening in the body depends on genes with maybe the unique exception of feelings, intelligence, personality and so on. stem cells keep active a set of genes useful for dividing. the daughter cells, anyway, turn on different set of genes which lead to the differentiation into a type of cell or another. scientist have long been studying stem cells but things seem to be much more complex than expected. they succeeded in changing the activation of genes of a diferentiated cell to bring it back to its pre-differentiation state and in few cases they could re-direct the development of these cells to different cell types. this makes possible to avoid the usage of embryos. anyway, much must still be discovered. regeneration through rdna techonoly could be possible, but not sooner than 20-30 years or maybe more than that
