If you broke things down into two categories, yes. You have metals, transition metals, metalloids, gases, halogens and noble gases.

You asked if they could be categorized into non metals and metals. That answer is yes. As stated before. You're correct that I didn't break down the traditional metals into alkali and alkaloid metals and left out Lanthanoids and Actinoids. FYI, poor metals are also known as metalloids. And Group 7A is known as halogens which your pdf neglects to mention.
