What are metalloids ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Metalloids are the elements along the stair-step line in the periodic table (between the metals and non-metals), and they have the characteristics of both metals and non-metals. For instance, silicon and germanium and semi-conductors. However, remember that aluminium is not a metalloid.
