Factor completely x^2+12xy+35y^2 How do you do this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x+7)(y+5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its really quite simple - for the equation Ax^2 + Bxy + Cy^2, you have to find 2 numbers who when added together give you B and when multiplied together give you C. in this case, its +7 and +5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats all that has to get factored? my book made it seem like there were more steps to it.. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but why is it x+7 and y+5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wow sry, too tired here = its (x+5y)(x+7y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since we had a second variable, we just add that to the 2nd value. same thing for getting the 5 and 7 though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh okay i thought sometthing was missing there, thanks !!
