6/17+2/8

OpenStudy (amistre64):

with fractions; its easier to add and subtract them when they have the same bottoms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[{6 \over 17 }*{8\over8} + {2\over8}*{17\over17} = {48\over 136} + {34\over136}\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

another way is just to clear the fractions out like this: 6/17 + 2/8 = n ; where n = some number, multiply thru by 17 6(17)/17 + 2(17)/8 = 17n ; simplify 6 + 2(17)/8 = 17n ; now multiply thru by 8 6(8) + 2(17)(8)/8 = 17(8)n ; and simplify 6(8) + 2(17) = 17(8)n ; re write as: 48 + 34 = 136n ; now solve for n
