The left side of a balanced scale has 2 blocks and a bag while the right side has 7 blocks. How many blocks are in the bag? Explain how you found your answer.

Five - if the scales are balanced (and assuming the bag weighs nothing!) there's 7 blocks' worth of weight on both sides. So the bag must contain 7-2 = 5 blocks.
