you need to make sure you understand the concepts - they can be a little difficult initially

Know your algebra. 

The hard part about first semester calculus isn't the new concepts introduced as calculus. It's the fact that they expect you to know and be able to use every single scrap of algebra you've learned up to this point.

notecards with formulas to study, study cheat sheets and notes, extra at home practice and reviews before tests, also find a group whose heads are also in the same place as yourself to study with
