-8+16-32+.... is this arithmetic , geometric series or neither of them. whats the reason?

this would be geometric because each value is being multiplied by -2 to get to the next

at first glance, i notice that each term is doubled as well as flipping signs; this tells me its being multiplied by a common ratio

arithmetic=add geometric=multiply
