2x^3+12x^2+7x+42 ----------- ------ group1 group2 you treat them as two groups, the first one consisting of the first two terms and the second one consisting of the last two terms then you take out common terms from the first two and the common terms from the last two as follows 2x^3+12x^2+7x+42 2x²(x + 6) +7(x + 6) now you see both products have (x + 6) common, so take it out and the final answer is (x + 6)(2x² + 7) these are the two factors...

x²(x + 2) +4(x + 2) (x + 2) ( x² + 4) once you get the terms in the bracket for first two terms, then write the same thing in the bracket for last two terms and then see what you have to put outside the second bracket....
