With most subjects in order to provide ethical feedback one needs to be able to have some back and forth with those asking questions. I want to provide math help but I want to do so ethically where I believe that the user is learning and not just copying. It would be good to develop a system that allows for a bit more back and forth to ensure understanding. Some may still just give out answers but I'd feel better about participating if I could do it in more of a tutor context than an answer giving context.
Hm.. What do you feel is preventing you from engaging in these back and forths now? Most of our power users (e.g., polpak, satellite74, etc) often *insist* on going through a problem top-to-bottom with the people they help, rather than just giving answers.
the answerer defines the degree of information they present. You can can give hints and lead along the path that gets them to their destination; or as others have done you can simply give out answers that have no merit other than its an answer that may or may not be correct. With this type of forum, you have complete control on how you interact with the participants. Those seeking to gain real understanging will stick with it to the end. in my opinion.
.... that would have been more profound if it werent typoed lol
Basically, leave the answerers to get on with it if that's what makes them happy... Where would this show up, I wonder? No of medals/no of posts, perhaps?
