well i guess i'm kind of just wondering in general.. but, it might have to do with the game theory and agonistic behavior

the principal advantages:
-good food
-have a lot of female (reproduction sucessfull)
-have a place suitable for life
-if this place is in the center of others territories, it can won protection of the depredators.
disavantages:
- high rate of energy in maintain the territory.
