Can u (you as in the people in charge of this site) change people's usernames? I've seen some like "fluttermath" and others that just make me uncomfortable.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No,It is difficult. If the change is very much necessary, you have to request the administrators of the site using Contact@openstudy.com for either changing username/deleting the account.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Most of the time when we come across blatantly offensive material, it just gets deleted and the accounts are terminated.

OpenStudy (darthsid):

Please report any abusive usernames by using the "Report Abuse" functionality, and we will take care of them. There is a strict no-tolerance policy towards abusive usernames. That said, as we grow, it is not possible to police all usernames all the time. We catch a lot, but some still get through. This is the reason why we implemented the report abuse feature. When you report someone, all the moderators of that group will get emailed, and will take appropriate action. Also remember, abusing the "Report Abuse" feature can get you suspended.

As an OpenStudy student I feel like the language rules should be better enforced. Not only when it comes to usernames but also with group chat. They (whoever is in charge) should AUTOMATIALLY decline the use of inappropriate language. Many are taking advantage of the group chat.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the group chat does seem to turn into a cesspool most of the time.... it like the waiting room in a walkin clinic

OpenStudy (owlfred):

We're working on this gandalf. Any username that is inappropriate, please send to owlfred@openstudy.com

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Yeah, we'll be adding some delightful filtering to chat/replies/questions soon.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe that's a stupid question, but why is mathsucks4sure an okay username while fluttermath is not? Sorry, not native English speaker, plus I never got the prank calls of Bart Simpson to the bar... ;-)

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

sucks isn't considered a cuss word, and the username isn't insulting anyone in particular. On the other hand, flutter isn't a cuss word directly, but it's what the on-site filter substitutes in for a different, well-known cuss word, so it's more problematic.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes- when I wrote the question, the word I wrote wasn't "flutter"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so for clarification: If someone writes f****, there is a script that automatically turns it into flutter?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I just tried this out. Oh my gosh, this is great! You guys have put some thought into how to keep the discourse on a study level! Cudos!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it changes it on teh screen, but it retains it in the notifications and the title of the page
