wegener had a theory that stated all the continents and islands today were once a big island called pangea. many people believe this to be true, because 1) the west coast of africa and the east coast of south america seem to fit together perfectly 2) same species of animals have been found on both of these coastlines and other animals elsewhere on the planet have been found at other coastlines (if that makes sense) 3) sediments in the ground below each coastline are identical to the neighbouring coastlines 4) identical fossils have been found on these neighbouring coastlines
