3 brothers rent a hotel room for $30 total. When they get to their room, the manager realizes they overpaid and it was actually $25. He tells the bellhop to give them their change. The bellhop figures he'll give each brother $1 and pocket the other $2 for himself. That means each brother paid $9. $9x3=$27 plus the $2 the bellhop took (=$29). Where'd the other $1 go?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

brothers actually paid 9.33 $

OpenStudy (anonymous):

instead of 9 $

OpenStudy (amistre64):

there is no missing dollar; only bad mathical skills

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Brothers paid 9 dollars each but you by mistake add the 2 dollars the bellhop kept instead of subtracting it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right. the hotel owner has the 25, each guest has a dollar, and the bellhop has 2, its all acounted for.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

accounted*

OpenStudy (amistre64):

room cost 25 they paid 27 ------------ $2 overcharged, sue the bellhop

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they actually paid $8.33 a piece given that they all paid equally...still...where does the 1cent go?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the bellhop took a service fee of $2.00...lmao
