Why is this conjecture false? If two numbers divide evenly into a larger number then their product will also divide into that larger number. For example, since 4 and 6 divide evenly into 48, their product which is 24 also divides into 48.

it depends on what 2 numbers you pick.  4 doenst divide 6, so you are safe with picking those numbers.
But what if i picked 4 and 8?
4 divides 24, and 8 divides 24, but 32 doesnt.

Another example. if I picked 2 and 8.  2 divides 24, and 8 divides 24, but 16 doesnt.
