need help with easy steps on how to estimate sums and differences of fractions and mixed numbers please 1/3+4/7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Always find the lowest common demoninator. Here it would be 21. So in order to make the denominators both 21, multiply the first fraction by 7/7 and the second fraction by 3/3 and you get 7/21+12/21. Now they have common denominators and you can simply add the numerators to get 19/21. Simplify if possible :)

1/3+4/7 what is the answer then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

19/21 since you can't reduce the fraction
