A mutation causes a cell to gradually decrease in volume over a series of cell cycles. Analysis of the proteins in G1 and G2 using SDS-page shows an abnormal protein of 90kDa in weight. The wild type is 100kDa. What protein could this be and could you suggest its activity? Thanks

It could be a shortened protein which is involved in the cytoskeleton such as keratin or lamin (which are both intermediate filaments). By having a smaller cytoskeletal protein the cell would be smaller in size after a number of replication cycles.

Thanks for the answer, forgot I posted this here. I found it in the end, it was the Wee1 protein.
