is it correct to say " i'm just a novice in photography "???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As an alternative, you can say "I'm a novice photographer."

It is not correct. "I'm just a novice in the field of photography."

It is correct so long as the reader can ascertain the meaning of the sentence. Language is flexible in that way. However, there are ways to distinguish yourself with how you use language. For example; "gotten" wasn't considered a word in the dictionary until it was used so often in everyday vernacular that it was deemed worthy. However, "youse" that is, "you" (plural) in some parts of society is commonly used, but is still not considered proper English. That said, in communities and sub-cultures that use the term, it is perfectly acceptable - and therefore, could be considered "correct".
