Know your subatomic particles and where they are found. Know how to make a Bohr model for the first three rows of the periodic table. Know how to make a lewis dot structure for the first three rows of atoms. Know the definition of a compound. Given a compound, know how to count the number of atoms. Know differences between a chemical and physical change. That should be a good start.
