Hi everyone i'm designing and constructing a voice coil for my sub its more of a self project. So i was wondering by increase the thickness would this increase inductance of the coil? What factors can i take into account for increasing inductance?
If you mean thickness of the wire, it will not increase inductance, but it will lower the resistance of the coil (considering the skin effect doesn't play at the low frequency a woofer operates at). Lower resistance gives better coil performance. In terms of geometry, the inductance of a (single layered) coil can be can calculated with:\[L \approx n^2 d^2 / ( l + 0.45 d )\] where n is number of turn, d is diameter of and l is the length of the coil
thanks for clearing up my misconception this is type of answer i was actually looking for.
