a certain printer can print at the rate of 80 characters per second, and there is an average (aritmetic mean) of 2,400 characters per page. If the printer continued to print at this rate, how many minutes would it take to print an M-page report?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If it takes 1 second to print 80 characters. How many seconds to print 2400 characters?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How many seconds in a minute?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

60 seconds

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Easy math: so 3 seconds to print a page. 60 seconds in a minute, so the ratio is 3/60 minutes per page. So for an M-page report it would be 1/20 minute*M

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does this make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldn't it be 30 seconds to print a page?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but yea i get it now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh maybe, i wasn't really thinking. so even easier math! so it would be 30/60 minutes per page so 1/2minutes*M

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am glad you get it now!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea its just the question was a bit wordy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Word problems can be that way. :p
