The whole place looks like it is for Ivy League people; I think that needs to be helped. You see, there is no classification according to class/age in here. Lets say, I study in O levels; then, I really wouldnt want to make my question infront of pro's, would I? There should really be a classification according to class/age/grade/exam for the lower grade people. What do you think?
Also, there is no scope for forming your own small group. If the people in my class want to have their own group; would it be possible here? Just our class in a small cozy place?
Also, there is no search button. I mean, come on; loadsa times, there would be needs for people to search inside the site. You seriously did not give that a thought?
The Maximum number of people that I have seen are in maths section and that also not more then 140(Online ) it's not that big community ...I don't think we need groups(Not now), People help you irrespective of their position and you will learn something new from them new methods, better methods
I agree with Ishaan, I think u should take advantage of all the different experience around here, u won't get that in school or even uni. Facebook or Google+ is better for a small group. Agree about search (or a tag cloud).
Facebook or google+ does not give the option for writing equations ... which can end up being very problematic sometimes ...
but yes, there should be a search bar ... and a way to edit your previous post and add or delete your stuff in it ...
why would you not want any of your questions answered by (seen by) pros?
... i need help, but i dont want anyone who knows what they are doing to help me ... is pretty much what that reads like to me :)
Re: Ivy League people: that's absolutely not true. We get questions ranging from simple order of operations to differential equations in the math group, for example. That's hardly Ivy League only. Ask your question, let someone answer it. Provided you phrase it respectfully, there are no limits to what you can ask beyond what others can answer. Re: small groups: we're working on integrating small groups into OpenStudy in a way that makes sense. OpenStudy is fundamentally about creating one big study group where you can leverage help from many others in real time. So you're right, our primary focus is *not*, in fact, on small groups. But, as I mentioned, we're looking at how we can let people break off into smaller groups without interfering with the broader experience. At the moment, it isn't possible. Re: search: we have given search serious thought. If you want to search for an answer, you can do it elsewhere; the primary purpose of questions on OpenStudy isn't searchability, it is to let you talk to another person in real time who can give you an answer tailored to your particular needs and understanding. We think that's superior to just finding an answer in the archives. That said, you can usually search OpenStudy by going to Google and adding site:openstudy.com to the end of your search.
"Ivy League" I think that is great, even though MIT OCW is not Ivy League. I think Open Courseware is a great place to become a purveyor of one's own education. I like Open Study's mission 'you are not alone'. How to have a positive peer experience and push oneself?
I don't think this is for Ivy League at all. Participants come from all over the world with a common goal of learning and helping each other with knowledge and exchange of perspectives. This is very cool to connect and enriching. I would like to know where people are from and especially 'talk' to people who want to learn English----that is,when I have spare time to share :-)
hmmm, I get all of that ... but really; I would have loved to have a completely personal group ... where you can open up the subjects you need ... for your own class ... and can ask everyone of your class to join (it can be password protected) ... that way, we can have a whole class going on inside open study ... offcourse, it wouldn't be open ... but it would be more free and stuff ... and even the teachers can join in and help you finish homework when needed .... that would be awesome really ... if i could meet my teachers every night before classday ...... that way, even the teachers can maintain a notice board ..... and start online sharing schemes ........ and maybe even conduct video lessons .... offcource ... the open places will stay .... they will be the place you go to when you need higher studies and stuff .... and want to ask stuff people in your class cannot answer ... maybe there can be an option of moving questions from your private group to the open boards when you cannot really get your answer there .... what this will do is that it will create compact groups ... and it will help flood in many people into the site .... so, what do you think?
