It's Same Like your Home Address !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But it is for Computer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh, but where is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not like that... as soon as you join the Network an IP is assigned to you. Every information that you demand is given to you through that IP address.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you want to know your IP then go to this site http://whatismyipaddress.com/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ip is an identity of your computer on a network it is of two type 1: internal ip address : which you can see by right click your network connection and then go to properties and then check your tcp/ip property section in it 2: external ip address: which is given by your internet service provider(ISP) like your mobile company provides internet connection, this address is used to identify you in this world of internet across the globe. when you connect to internet an external ip is provided to u which u can't see directly but your internal ip is also working at the same time. to see your external ip which is identifying uniquely u on the internet goto www.whatismyip.com have fun :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the above site will show you your external ip that is visible to everyone on the internet

It should also be noted that internal/external I.P. addresses only come into play when you have multiple devices sharing an internet connection. If your computer is hooked directly to the internet, then you're only going to have ONE I.P. Also, contrary to popular belief (thanks mostly in part to shows like CSI and...well...basically anything that's on CBS these days) your I.P. address can NOT pinpoint your computer. It is NOT like your home address and chances are, there have been at LEAST 20 other computers that have had the same I.P. address as you, depending on the size of the city you live in. What an IP does is locates you on your home network (Comcast/Century-tel/etc...) which will give away your GENERAL area. This is not 100% effective though, my IP address saying I'm somewhere in mid-florida while I'm actually in Alabama. So, basically, and IP is like having a bumper sticker on your car that says which state your from. One final thing, if you're running windows, open up a command prompt window and type "ipconfig" without the quotes. Your I.P. address will be the numbers displayed next to "IPv4 address"
