OpenStudy (anonymous):

can anybody explain to me the concept of functions!!PLEASE

OpenStudy (amistre64):

first you must know the value of a relation

OpenStudy (amistre64):

since functions are special relations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow. that is a tall order, even for experienced mathematicians since historically, and even today, there is much disagreement over what it means

myininaya (myininaya):

A function: We say \[f: R->R\] is a function if there is a unique output for each input.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

relations tend to be polygamous; functions tend to be more monogamous; but in the sense that one element of the domain can only be attached to only element in the range; but one element of a range can share a many elements in the domain; so more like mormon polygamy :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then we have strictly monogamous functions that are one to one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

basic easy to understand examples here http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/Alg/FunctionDefn.aspx

OpenStudy (amistre64):

james asks then leaves ... hmm

myininaya (myininaya):

maybe he didnt like you

myininaya (myininaya):

i know he didnt run when he seen me im too cute

OpenStudy (amistre64):

nobody likes me :( i was looking at the guy in the mirror the other day and he just sat there sticking his tongue out at me ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that was me!

myininaya (myininaya):

i think you are okay amistre

OpenStudy (amistre64):

:) thnx your just saying that cause you like me pie

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you used to be my hero now you are my sensei

myininaya (myininaya):

lol i honestly thing he ran away because he seen satellite

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and inthe end, ill just be a legend; in me own mind lol

OpenStudy (amistre64):

its that gang bicycle icon :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

legend in the fall

myininaya (myininaya):

so you never got that bicycle amistre?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

never, they gave me something that made me green tho ... fer some reason ;)

myininaya (myininaya):

i want to be pink

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[\huge\color{pink}{MYININAYA}\] hows dat?

myininaya (myininaya):

i dont like that pink you have something hotter?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

id have to dig into hexidecimals ... but yes :)

myininaya (myininaya):

lol

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[\color{#f033a3}{This \ is\ Pink?}\]

myininaya (myininaya):

omg i like that pink!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i guessed at : #f033a3

myininaya (myininaya):

gj

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[\huge\color{#f033a3}{\text{myininaya}}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i like this one \[\color{#ff0099}{\text{my myininaya}}\]

myininaya (myininaya):

Satellite what number of medals will make me a sensei like you guys? i like amistre's better

OpenStudy (anonymous):

east to remember too #ff0099

myininaya (myininaya):

my name looks better bigger

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you would like his better think it is a combination of medals and answers. a slow process. unfortunately nusrat fateh kubla kahn is going to beat you

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[\tiny\ \text{amistre64}\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

level 80 is sensei

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\color{#ff0099}{\huge{\text{my myininaya}}}\]

myininaya (myininaya):

im confused about khan

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i bet he is 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or less

OpenStudy (amistre64):

king khan?

myininaya (myininaya):

saifoo khan

OpenStudy (amistre64):

saifoo seems cool...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lol ... happens to me all the time ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

next time he is here i will ask. i am not shy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and yes, i know just what you are talking about. maybe he is two people

myininaya (myininaya):

i'm just confused about him lol

myininaya (myininaya):

i think he is cool too amistre

myininaya (myininaya):

because he gives me medals :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In case he returns, here's my 2 cents: A function is something that operates on data. You feed in data(all the data u are allowed to put in is called the domain of the function) The function processes the data. You get an answer (all the data the function can output is called the range or codomain). The most important thing u need to know (right now) is that there is only 1 possible output for a given input, if there is more than 1 then the processor is not a function.U can however have the same output for different inputs.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

does a function operate on data? or do only those functions taht are defined by some sort of equation allow us to do so?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow Thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's the way computers are set up and equations are not the only form of processor.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

cool, :)
