forest covers 2200 km^2. Each year it decreases by 5.75%. What will the area be after 15 years?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One way to do it is to find the fraction of what remains. To do this, you do 100 - percent. Which is 1.00 - .0575, leaving us with .9425. Now, multiply 2200 fifteen times by .9425, one at a time.

2073.5 left after first year 1954.27375 left after second year 1841.903009375 third year (1841.903009375) * (.9525).... for fourth year and so on.

after 15 times it should be 904.9885072

Then that must be the answer if it's what you got. :D
