You can find some really good tutorials on YouTube. Start with learning the basics of layers, from there you can proceed with effects and ways to do things.

actually there's an ebook it comes with video tutorials and exercise files called " Adobe Photoshop CS5 One on One " by Deke McClelland.. i'm sorry i lost the download link ...u can google it ..i really hope u find it ...coz it's amazing ...that's how i learned photoshop :D
