how can I learn about proper structure for an english paper for university?
i was gonna say i had an english structure book, but i forgot that i gave it back... but if you go to a library, im sure they have stuff
you could either buy a book or look this information up online. Many universities use apa formatting. Even if your university uses mla there are still free resources out there for you. Purdue owl is a great website that i sometimes use when writing papers if i dont have my book at hand. This website has great guides for both formats. (:
I second OWL Purdue. It's a great website.
This structure has worked for me countless times in college without fail, from anthropology to British literature: Introuction 1. Attention getter- have a beginning sentence/s that grabs your audience through the use of a relevant quote, story, statistic, song lyric, etc. 2. Thesis- one sentence that summarizes your entire paper. Body 1. Topic 1- organize your information by topics, or key points. Try to have a beginning transition sentence for each paragraph to increase the flow of the paper. 2. Topic 2 3. Topic 3 Conclusion 1. Transition to conclusion- basically a rewording of your thesis statement 2. Closing statement- try to refer back to your attention getter if you can, if not end on a powerful quote that's relevant, or your own personal relevance to the paper you have written. This is one of the most important parts of your paper, because it's the last thing your professor will read before grading it. Hope it helps, and good luck!
