Simplify. [(8/9) + (1/3)] + (2/3)^3

OpenStudy (luke):

in simplification with fractions you want to change the fractions to have common denominators. the first change you must make is to raise 2/3 to the third power and find the value to be 8/27 or (2^3)/(3^3). this does not simplify into a smaller power of three, as the other two fractions do. thus the other fractions must be multiplied by 3/3 and 9/9 respectively so all the denominators are 27. this gives 24/27 + 9/27 + 8/27
