Is this linearly independent? v_1=(1,-1,0) and v_2=(3,1,-2)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When I row reduced I got (1 0 -0.5; 0 1 -0.5) I dont know if that's linearly independent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm suppose to show it's linearly independent but from my matrix it doesn't seem like it. x_3 looks like it's dependent on x_1 and x_2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes they are independent because one is not a constant multiple of the other

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but there's 3 variables and only 2 vectors?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any ideas estudier?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are not being asked for a basis for which you would require 3 vectors. Only to make sure the vectors u have are not parallel which would be the case if one was a scalar multiple of the other.

Haha! Actually I am.. But I have to add the extra vector later but alright I guess you guys are right thanks for your help
