*homologous chromosomes pair, forming a bivalent . (note. the bivalent has two chromosomes and four chromatids.)

metaphase 1.

*nuclear membrane disappears.
* bivalents align at the metaphase plate
*spindle fibers attach to the chromosomes at the centromeres.
