Gino designed a garden for his rectangular backyard. The design he drew on paper is 6 inches wide. The width of his backyard is 30 feet. If his drawing is to scale, and his backyard is 40 feet long, how many inches long is his drawing? Write a proportion using words. Then, use the proportion to calculate the drawing length. Show your work.

OpenStudy (mathsolver):

the picture is 8 inches long, because 6 inches is 30 feet, that is a proportion of 1:5 so 1:5 is the same as ?:40, 8:40 is proportional to 1:5

the answer is 8 since 30 divided by 6=5 , 40 divided by 5= 8 so the answer is 8
