How can I write a poem about my sad and depressing life without sounding like I am complaining?
Beware the connotations of the words you choose. Also try not to be cliche, as most sad and depressing poems end up being.

Another test is to read it, and if it sounds like complaining to you, then rewrite it until you are satisfied with it. You need to make sure you have material, and not just angst.
Try not to be too telling, describe your life objectively with descriptive language that showcases your life and the parts of it that affect you the most and avoid talking too much about how you yourself feel. You want your reader to feel like their experiencing what you are feeling without having to tell them straight out. The greatest poetry inspires empathy and not pity.
what i do is almost write impulsively with out any control or reason simply the words that i personally believe describe my emotions or thoughts at that time and everyone is different so write without thinking and use feeling. Its almost like a flow and most importantly as you write make sure the last thing your thinking about is what someone may think of what your writing...
Life IS sometimes hard, painful,and overwhelming. You can convey your feelings and others will relate to your poem. An alternative, of course, is to write a pure rant and complain fully--go over the top---readers may relate to your unique plight.

Have the reader live it with you. Don't be, "my life sucks because of this and this...", try "come, walk with me through my life, see what it's like..." Nobody likes being force-fed hardcore angst
