light and sound both are waves, so why cannt we see the person, when we can hear him from another room....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because we get the sound waves from other room to our ears but light rays we canot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because soundwaves travel through the particles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

light can also be diffracted@rabin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sound waves travel in solid at the fastest speed that is its speed in ice is about 1500 m/s and they can also travel through particles but light waves are wither reflected or absorbed by an opaque material and donot go through the object

I just had a feeling that the answer given by me was not correct and yes light can be diffracted but the inclination of sound waves for diffraction is higher for sound than light because of appreciable wavelengths

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sound waves differ from light waves in their frequency and wavelength. due to their low frequencies and long wavelength sound waves when diffracted around corners bend in such a way that they can be heard. reflection or "bouncing off" surfaces also helps in this. The wavelength of sound is typically a few meters, long enough to bend around obstacles such as doors and hallways. Also, many sound sources emit sound more or less radially (in all directions). On the other hand, light is more often more narrow beam-like and the wavelength of visible light is about 400 nanometers. Hence, we will not be able to notice its diffraction unless the obstacles have about the same dimensions as the wavelength. That's why we usually don't notice it, but if light passes through a small slit it does 'bend' and we can 'see around a corner'. hope this answers your question....
