I don't understand Chicago Style. When do I have to put footnotes in?

Don' t know if this applies but in UK you put Footnotes in when you cite (Bauman 1987 pp 44-78) Footnote Bauman Liquid Lives 1987. That is the best way to do it. Be careful to cite all sources as one can be done for plagirism.
So for Papers. Who is influencing your thinking? do you think Milton Friedman is the greatest thing since sliced bread and his mates Hayek, Chicago School et al. Or do you think they are a bunch of evil hucksters and left needs to re-emerge in hegemonic fashion.
For Right wing essay Hayek in Roads to Serfdom (book not read for random illustrative purposes only says the only way is the fast race to the bottom for optimal working of markets (Hayek 1978 pp-90-140) whereas Klein Naomi 1990 says these Markets are destructive of wealth creation mechanism.
