Calculate loss of kinetic energy after a collision?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

loss of kinetic energy = kinetic energy after the collision - kinetic energy before the collision

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[v_{1}=velocity\ before\ collision,\ v_{2}=velocity\ after\ collision\] \[\Delta E_{c}=E_{2}-E_{1}=\frac{1}{2}mv_{2}^2 - \frac{1}{2}mv_{1}^2=\frac{1}{2}m(v_{2}^2-v_{1}^2)\]

energy can not be created or destroyed but can be transferred from one form to the other e.g kinetic to potential , sound or other form of energy .here what you can do is to compere kinetic energy before with kinetic after .since the velocity will vary the you will get your answer
