Find the volume of the cone. (Round to the nearest tenth.) (I almost got it, but I keep messing up somewhere every time I try and solve it)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

These are the answer choices: 1250.7 mm3 2014.1 mm3 289.4 mm3 1229.4 mm3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

formula is V= 1/3 pi r^2 h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got the formula. But it only gives the height and I guess the 38 is an angle, if you look close.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep, so we need to use trigonometry to get the r value for the formula what trig function would we need?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tan. right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay! So you do tan(38) = 9/x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct. solving algebraically that gives us r = 9/ (tan(38))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got. r = 11.52. now I can find the volume!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

although, I didn't not get r =11.52 so, you might want to double check that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, I rounded.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah i don't think I did it right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what did you get? I think you should be good to go. I got one of your choices :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1255mm^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But it's not an answer choice./:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, it's a little off from rounding, but that is okay. Which answer would you pick?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1250.7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's it :) and nothing else is close so you're good to go

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yaaay! Thankyou[: I actually learned something from this, thankyou![:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I said thankyou twice.... lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

happy to help :)
